KEPALA BATAS - Incumbent Bertam assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab said he will focus on the Bertam youth in the upcoming state election.
Khaliq, who is contesting on a Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket, said that the youth are a key demographic in the area and that he wants to ensure that they have the opportunities they need to succeed.
"The economy in this country is so bad at the moment.
"Our ringgit is going down, in fact, the cost of living is on the rise now.
"Let’s look at these youngsters, after graduation, they need to continue living, they need a job," Khaliq said in an exclusive interview with Sinar Daily.
Khaliq said that he would be working to create more job opportunities for the youth in Bertam, as well as to provide them with the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.
"This is of course, the main issue, and I suppose it is not just my manifesto, it should be the manifesto of all candidates, regardless of party.
"So we have to take care of bread and butter issues concerning the welfare of the rakyat and also job opportunities and of course, education," he said.
Khaliq will be contesting against Umno candidate Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for the Bertam state seat in the upcoming Penang state election, which will be held on Aug 12.
