KEPALA BATAS - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Bertam candidate Khaliq Mehtab has said that he is confident of sweeping all three state seats in Permatang Pauh in the upcoming Penang state election.
Speaking to Sinar Daily, Khaliq said that the legacy of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in Permatang Pauh is "dead" after his daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar, lost the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
"The legacy is dead. In fact, I am very certain that PN will sweep in all three state seats in Permatang Pauh (Seberang Jaya, Permatang Pasir and Penanti).
"Yes, and soon the Kepala Batas parliament seat will belong to the PN as well," Khaliq said.
Khaliq will be contesting against Umno candidate Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for the Bertam state seat.
Khaliq's confidence stems from the fact that he believes that the people of Permatang Pauh are now disillusioned with PH.
He said that the people are tired of the "drama" and "bickering" within PH, and they are looking for a change.
"The people of Permatang Pauh are looking for a new beginning, and I believe that PN can offer them that," Khaliq said.
He also pointed to the fact that PN has a strong track record in government, having served in the previous administration led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"We have a proven track record of delivering results, and I believe that the people of Permatang Pauh will be wise to vote for PN," Khaliq said.
The Penang state election will be held on Aug 12.
