Man who abuses wife to death nabbed in Johor

SERDANG – A man who allegedly beats his wife to death was arrested Monday night while hiding in Johor to elude the police.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the 32-year-old man was believed to have beaten the woman with blunt objects until she died on July 21 in a flat at Sungai Long, Kajang, Selangor.

"As a result of the investigation, police discovered that the suspect was in Johor before making an arrest last night."

"Following that, police conducted a series of raids during the arrests, including the confiscation of some items believed to be related to the case," he said during a press conference on Tuesday.

He said this after attending the seventh-anniversary parade of the auxiliary police Sime Darby Property Berhad (SDPB) at the nearby University of Putra Malaysia (UPM).

SDPB Group Managing Director Datuk Azmir Merican, Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Sasikaladevi, UPM Industry and Community Network Professor Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr Hang Tuah Baharudin and Malaysian Auxiliary Police Association President Mohd Razali Abd Aziz were also present.

Hussein stated that the suspect would be held in custody for seven days until August 7 to assist with the investigation.

Earlier, Sinar Harian reported that the woman who had bruises all over her limbs had been taken to a private hospital by the suspect before he was believed to have escaped.

The suspect was apprehended after reportedly hitting his wife and the case was investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death penalty if convicted.
