KUALA PILAH - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has reminded Umno members not to make statements that attack the party's leadership during the state election campaign.
The former Umno vice president said that attacks should be directed at the opposition, not fellow party members, during the election.
"It is important for us, as members of the party, not to attack our own party and leaders. In the end, it's Umno that will suffer
"Instead, focus on attacking the opposition, especially those from different constituencies," he said after attending a campaign with Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Johol, Saiful Yazan Sulaiman, today.
When asked about the possibility of sabotage by expelled or suspended Umno members, Ismail Sabri said that those individuals, having severed ties with the party, have the right to do whatever they wish.
He said the party cannot take any action against them as they are no longer bound by the party's constitution.
"If we don't want them to campaign with any other party, don't expel or suspend them for six years or such.
"They are no longer part of Umno. It's their right to choose, as they are no longer affiliated with the party," he said.
