SEBERANG JAYA - Pakatan Harapan's candidate for Seberang Jaya, Johari Kassim has made a unique comparison to describe his rival, Izhar Shah Arif Shah from Perikatan Nasional (PN), stating he sees Izhar as similar to his own son.
"My rival? He’s just like my son,” Johari told reporters during his walkabout with the Chinese community here at Gelanggang Bola Keranjang Akira, Jalan Tenggiri, today.
Izhar is the son of former Seberang Jaya assemblyman from Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah who served two terms from 2004 to 2013.
"He’s very young and his father is my friend. I’ve been friends with his father for quite some time so I know his father and I know my rival so well.
"He is very young to be committed here to serve the rakyat here,” he said.
Johari further said his rival's youth might slow down his commitment to serve the people of Seberang Jaya.
Johari, on the other hand, highlighted his own availability for public service, pointing out that he has the time and resources to focus solely on serving the rakyat of Seberang Jaya.
"Look at me, I have everything. My kids are growing up and I have eight grandchildren. So, I am free to serve the rakyat here,” he said.
The upcoming Penang state election on August 12 will see Johari going head on with Izhar for the Seberang Jaya state seat.
