GEORGETOWN - Incumbent Batu Lanchang assemblyman, Ong Ah Teong, has laid out a comprehensive manifesto focusing on environmental awareness, urban farming, and the redevelopment of Perak Road Market.
Ong aims to promote environmental consciousness by encouraging people to adopt eco-friendly practices such as using their own bags, thermos bottles, and reusable straws.
He is also committed to looking after the welfare of the community, particularly the underprivileged, by simplifying the application process for welfare and financial assistance.
"I also intend to promote urban farming and hydroponic cultivation, with a focus on greening communities and ensuring food security through gardening initiatives," he told Sinar Daily during a walkabout at Pasar Lanchang, today.
On his upcoming plans for the Batu Lanchang constituency, Ong aims to revitalise the Jalan Perak market project.
He expressed his intention to engage in discussions with the Penang Mayor after the state elections to collaboratively develop the market.
Additionally, Ong aspires to raise the prominence of Batu Lanchang as a well-known destination for both locals and tourists.
He envisions enhancing the area's visibility by creating a tourist guide map that highlights Batu Lanchang's attractions and local delicacies.
Ong is not new to the community, having served the people of Batu Lanchang since 2009.
He secured victory in the 2018 election with a substantial majority of over 18,000 votes, indicating his strong connection with the constituents.
