KUALA SELANGOR - Sungai Burong state assembly Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohd Zamri Mohd Zainuldin lost his father on Friday, but he continued to remember his words to serve the people.
Zamri, who was known as Ustaz Zamri Mantop said his late father Mohd Zainuldin Mohd Jainuddin, 77, would always pray and support him to contest in the state assembly and to be chosen in the Selangor state election.
"My late father told me if you want to serve the people, do your best and help the community," he said when met by Sinar at the Ar Raudhah Pekan Tanjong Karang Islamic Cemetery on Saturday.
Zamri, after attending the candidate nomination process at Dato' Hormat Tanjong Karang Hall then visited his father's grave before campaigning.
The late Zainuldin suffered from asthma and died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital at 7.23am.
Zamri who was the Tanjong Karang Pas Yang Dipertua said his late father who was a Pas member and supporter, wanted him to be closer to the local community.
"He always trained me to approach and meet the public for example going to functions and such to mentally prepare in the early stages," he said.
When asked about the preparations to face the two-corner clash in Sungai Burong, Zamri said the competition would be heated and focused on a healthy, mature as well as peaceful competition to nourish the democratic process.
"We are serious about bringing the people to think about the needs of the nation and this state in the future," he said.
The election witnessed Zamri facing BN candidate Mohamad Khir Ramli for the Permatang state seat.
The 14th general election (GE14) had BN candidate Datuk Mohd Shamsudin Lias after obtaining a majority of 2,330 votes.
Shamsudin gained 8,741 votes to defeat Zamri from Pas who obtained 6,411 votes and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Mohd Tarmizi Lazim gained 5,323 votes.
