BAYAN LEPAS - Disunity among Perikatan Nasional (PN) members will be our greatest strength, says Bayan Lepas incumbent assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz.

Azrul commented on this after the absence of Pas supporters to cheer on Datuk Dr Dominic Lau, the representative of the Gerakan party at the nomination centre, today.

"Today, I can see that PN's unity is not that strong.

"They have problems with candidate who wants to contest, so this clearly shows where our strength lies," he told reporters at Dewan Bukit Belah.

Azrul said that he did not expect the Bayan Lepas state seat to become a hot seat as he would be facing a two-cornered fight with Lau.

However, with his party's support, Azrul believes that Pakatan Harapan could win a chance in the upcoming state election.

"This election is not just about finding or appointing representatives, we need to elect representatives who want to work and fight for the sake of people's welfare," he added.

Earlier in the day, Azrul was greeted by enthusiastic supporters as he arrived at the nomination centre.

He was met with the warm embrace of hundreds of PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters, making for an eventful and energetic start to the nomination process.

The atmosphere was charged with excitement as political leaders and their supporters gathered to mark the beginning of an intense electoral contest in Bayan Lepas.

Previously, Lau's candidacy for the Bayan Lepas state assembly seat was opposed by Bayan Lepas Branch Pas members, who staged a peaceful protest and threatened to boycott the nomination and state election this time.

In fact, Lau's candidacy for the seat also raised questions when his name was not announced during the official announcement of the Penang PN candidate last Thursday.

It is understood that the PN candidate in the Bayan Lepas seat was initially given to Pas, who named the state Pas Secretary Iszuree Ibrahim as their candidate.
