Sanusi to defend Jeneri in a straight fight against BN

SIK - Caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor will be defending his incumbent state seat of Jeneri in a one-on-way electoral bout in the coming August 12 Kedah polls.

Sanusi who will be contesting under Perikatan Nasional (PN) will be up against Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Muhamad Khizri Abu Kassim.

The matter was announced at 10.25am after the Election Commission (EC) announced the conclusion of the candidacy nomination at 10am today.

The Jeneri state seat has a total of 35,079 voters.

The matter was announced at 10.25am by Returning Officer for the Jeneri seat, Mahamad Suhaimi Man after candidacy nominations were closed at 10am today.

"I have reviewed their nominations, and after it was completed, I am satisfied, and so, none of them were rejected,” said Mahamad Suhaimi.

The Jeneri state seat — which Sanusi won in the 2018 General Election by a majority of 2,455 — has a total of 35,079 voters.

Also announced was the candidacy for the Belantek state seat; where PN’s Ahmad Sulaiman will go head-to-head with Pakatan Harapan’s candidate, Mazli Saipi.

Belantek has a total of 28,006 voters and similar to Jeneri; 90 per cent of its population are Malays.
