DUNGUN - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on Friday, rubbished his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's statements, who predicted that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) would easily win 5-1 in the state polls next month.

"Today, he (Dr Mahathir) said they (PN) will win five out of six states. That's his guess. When he contested in Langkawi, he said (he could) win big (but) instead lost his deposit.

"What does it mean to lose a deposit? It means the votes were little and now he said PN will win. He should learn from experience; he said he would win big (but instead) he lost his deposit.

"God willing, surprises will happen in the state elections this time," he said while inaugurating the Sentuhan Kasih Desa Terengganu programme at the Central Terengganu Development Authority (Ketengah) Sports Complex in Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah, here, on Friday.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir predicted that PN would easily win 5-1 in the state elections on Aug 12.

Dr Mahathir explained that the coalition has good potential to maintain power in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah and seize Selangor and Negeri Sembilan but could not penetrate Penang.

Meanwhile, Anwar, who is also the Pakatan Harapan Chairman, said whatever the outcome of the state polls this time, it would not affect the Federal Government.
