SHAH ALAM - Former Andalas State Assemblyman Datuk Xavier Jayakumar, has vehemently denied being part of any 'scam' involving former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Speaking on the Sinar Daily Podcast Programme, Xavier clarified that he was with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim throughout and was not involved in any wrongdoing.
Xavier also expressed his views on the complications that arose before Anwar could be sworn in as Malaysia's prime minister, attributing them solely to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
According to Xavier, Mahathir and Shafie were the two individuals who prevented Anwar from gathering the necessary numbers of support.
"If Mahathir and Shafie had come together and compromised, then we would have had the same picture as we do today," Xavier said.
The former Water, Land, and Natural Resources Minister revealed that attempts were made to reach a compromise with Mahathir and Shafie, but unfortunately, they never attended the meetings.
Xavier expressed his confusion as to why they did not participate but affirmed his presence at all the meetings and his knowledge of the proceedings.
While Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, and Warisan president, Shafie, had expressed their full support for establishing a unity government at the state level on Jan 10, Xavier stressed the importance of having a functioning government in place to move the country forward.
"We need to get the country back on track," he stressed.
