SHAH ALAM - Former PKR vice-president Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar says it was the circumstances and compromise made by the party that brought the change in the government during the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.
He said at the time, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was the one who wanted the party to work with the government under the administration of then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in order to bring about a winning formula, that year.
"I know the (party's) struggle, I had been there with him (Anwar) and know the struggle and how we put up with it, what we did and how we won the election.
"With him (Anwar) still being prison (at that time), finally he told us that we had to compromise and work with everyone that is Dr Mahathir and the gang to bring about a winning formula in 2018.
"It is the circumstances and compromise that brought the change this country needed," he said during an interview on Sinar Daily's podcast.
The former Kuala Langat MP added that he was grateful that Anwar had became Malaysia's 10th Prime Minister in GE15, after many attempts to win in the elections.
