KOTA BELUD - A family of three decided to jump off from the second floor of their house to save themselves from becoming victims of a fire in Kampung Sangkir, here on Wednesday.
In the incident at about 1.30am, Hanisah Duin, 46, along with her two children, Ahmad Baharul Hidayat, 14, and Mohd Azham Khalis, 6, all suffered minor injuries after jumping from a height of three metres.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Muhammad Syazwan Latun said the department received a distress call at 1.40am.
He said a total of seven personnel were rushed to the scene located 10 kilometres away from the station.
"According to the report, it involved a semi-permanent two-storey house that was 100 per cent burnt down and operations to put out the fire was immediately carried out.
"There were three victims, a mother and her two children who suffered minor injuries after jumping down from the second floor to save themselves and at the time of the incident, the victim's husband was not at home," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Wednesday.
Syazwan said as a result of the incident, all of the victims suffered minor injuries in the legs in addition to bodily pain.
"The injuries may have been caused by the hard impact from the jump and all of them were given treatment by the Emergency Services Unit (EMRS) team and later sent to Kota Belud Hospital to get further treatment," he said.
Syazwan added that the operation ended at 3.28am.
