BANTING - Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is caused by hormonal changes, and this affects every woman differently, said celebrity doctor, Dr Shazril Shaharuddin.

Dr Shazril also known as Dr Say said in order to stabilise the hormonal changes it was important for women to know their body and pushed themselves according to their body’s ability.

"Exercising regularly, having a balanced diet, getting sufficient rest, and trying to reduce stress through breathing exercises helps in managing PMS and periods because it stabilizes your hormones,” he said.

He was speaking at the #KotexRiseUp camp sharing session alongside former artistic gymnast and Olympian Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, held at Tadom Hill, recently.

Delving deeper into the topic of period stigma, Farah Ann shared she was very fortunate to have grown up in a supportive environment where fellow gymnasts and coaches would share pads if needed and look out for one another in case they had leakage.

"Sadly this is not the case for most women in Malaysia who still struggle with shame when talking about their period or asking for a pad, so, that is why speaking up in forums like this is important to encourage other women to rise up and end period stigma,” she said.

Meanwhile, Brand Manager for Kotex Malaysia, Michelle Chin said, Kotexriseup camp was designed to motivate participants to end period stigma and explore a life filled with possibilities, period or not.

The camp was organised in conjunction with the introduction of the newly improved Kotex Total Protection Overnight range which guarantees women up to 100 per cent no back leaks for a worry-free sleep night.

"Kotex Malaysia brought a group of 60 all-female participants to overcome fears and anxiety, build resilience and gain confidence in a two-day empowerment camp while showcasing how our brand is delivering worry-free sleep even in a challenging environment,” she said.

Chin added that Kotex’s drive to support women’s progress and Malaysian consumers’ insights were the inspiration for its product innovation.

"We learned that women often feel anxious about menstrual leaks, especially at night and this can affect the quality of their sleep and the day ahead, hence, with this innovation, we are taking away this anxiety from menstruating women,” she said. -Bernama
