SHAH ALAM - Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, has described that DAP's proposal to have a speaker is a permissible practice and not wrong.

Amirudin highlighted that the proposal of DAP to have a speaker is within the bounds of the constitution and thus allowed.

"For instance, former Melaka speaker Datuk Wira Omar Jaafar was not a member of the state assembly, yet he served as the speaker. I don't see any issues with that.

"Although it might not have been a tradition in the past, it is not incorrect since it complies with the constitution. This creative proposal has the potential to resolve many matters.

"It also empowers the members of the people's representatives to engage in discussions. Otherwise, the speaker would have limited opportunities to discuss matters with the council members.

"We respect their views, and it is worth noting that DAP had already been a speaker 15 years ago," Amirudin told reporters after attending a Town Hall session at Karangkraf Mall yesterday.

He further pointed out that since DAP has prior experience as the speaker, it is justified for them to continue proposing and leading discussions.

"We must consider consensus, and DAP has put forward a solution. In fact, they have resolved many issues. I believe this will be a normal challenge in determining the candidates who will compete.

"At least, Alhamdulillah, there is no clash among us. It is not like the previous elections where Perikatan Nasional (PN) had internal clashes in Melaka and Johor.

"I think it's a positive start towards unity, avoiding clashes or confrontations, and it provides us a strong chance of victory by uniting our strengths," he said.
