SHAH ALAM - Dangdut singer, Baby Shima has announced that she will be contesting in the upcoming state elections on Aug 12 this year.
However, Baby Shima, whose real name is Nor Ashima Ramli did not disclose which party she will be representing.
"Assalamualaikum, fellow Malaysians. I would like to announce that I will be running in this state elections to serve and defend the people.
"Remember, you (voters) bring about change (to the country). Think about it, young people," she said in a video posted on Instagram on today.
The Election Commission (EC) had previously scheduled the elections to be held simultaneously in six states on Aug 12, with the candidate nomination day on July 29.
Meanwhile, the early voting day will be on Aug 8.
This was announced by EC Chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, during a press conference at the SPR Tower in Putrajaya. Abdul Ghani stated that the campaigning period is set for 14 days starting from the announcement of the candidates until 11.59pm on Aug 11.
