KUALA LUMPUR - Barisan Nasional (BN) is betting on bigwigs again to win and defend the state legislative assembly (DUN) seats in the upcoming state elections on Aug 12.
The BN Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, will defend the Rantau State Assembly seat under the Rembau Parliament.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, who is also a former Member of Parliament for Kepala Batas, will contest for the Bertam state assembly seat.
When announcing the list of official candidates, UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said former Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Jalaludin Alias was nominated to contest for the Pertang seat.
Two former Mentri Besar of Terengganu, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman, were also re-nominated to defend the Kijal and Seberang Takir state seats, respectively.
Previously, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said a total of 108 BN candidates will be contesting out of 245 seats for the upcoming state polls in Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
Of the figure, 63 per cent are new faces, 18 per cent are incumbents, and 20 percent are those who have contested before.
