Kedah has always been synonymous with its beautiful vistas of stretched paddy fields but over the past six years, it’s been given a fashionable update.
Every year since 2016 (with the exception of the Covid-19 pandemic era), Alor Setar’s most coveted shopping mall, Aman Central becomes the "it” place to be as fashion industry players, models, and fashion enthusiasts flock there to witness the Kedah Fashion Show.
This coming Aug 4 to 6, the fashion show will mark its return to the same venue.
This year, the event joins forces with Kedahan designers such as Ikmal Mukmin for Gens Great Idea and YT Lable, guided by founder Jimmy Lim.
Others include Asyraf Arriff, Ezuwan Ismail, Anuar Faizal, Teddie Alrashed for Blue Natar, Oscar Lee, and two international designers Kanapot Aunsorn from Thailand and Yadanar from Myanmar.
Familiar names such as Seth & Luna, Amaze, and Wan & Mary among others are also set to showcase their designs for the runway.
Belleview Group chief operating officer (parent company to Aman Central) Lawrence Teh said the Kedah Fashion Week gives an opportunity for industry players up north to showcase their talent.
"The northern region is quite integrated. George Town Fashion Week is another event that converges talents together, and now we branch it out to Kedah.
"Our aim is to establish ourselves as a fashion destination for enthusiasts. This event serves as a powerful expression of the northern region’s fashion landscape and identity,” he said.
Belleview Group director Grace Ho said this is a platform for local and emerging young talents to showcase their creativity.
"Expect to see a range of modest fashion, men’s fashion, local batik, and more,” she said.
