MARANG - The arrest of caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to enable the legal process to be carried out on him does not affect the support for Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the state election.

Pas vice president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said all parties respect the actions taken towards the PN Election director, but there was no mass protest was made on the issue.

"I think it would not affect (the state elections). Insya-Allah, because we saw how the case mention was done.

"There was no large gathering on the issue as some parties worried about, to the point that some made (a statement) to the joke, there were a lot of cameramen (at the court)," he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sekolah Menengah (SM) IMTIAZ Terengganu Marang Foundation Complex in Kampung Tok Muchong here on Tuesday.

Samsuri said this when asked to comment on the arrest and legal process Sanusi went through.

Samsuri said the arrest of Sanusi at 3am should not have been done.

"He (Sanusi) was scheduled to go to court this morning, I don't think he needed to be taken at 3am.

"He is not a fugitive attempting to run.

"Just inform him of the time he must be present in court, if it's 8am, he will attend at 8am. Whatever time he needs to attend at a police station, we leaders would attend, we are not running anywhere.

"Why must he be held, arrested and taken away at 3am?" he questioned.

Sanusi was reportedly arrested in a hotel at Mont Kiara before he was brought to the Selayang Sessions Court on the charges of releasing seditious words regarding the appointment of the Selangor Menteri Besar in a ceramah last week.

He was arrested by a police team from the Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) and the Federal Police's Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice Division (D7) at approximately 2.30am.

He was then brought to the Gombak district police headquarters.
