KOTA KINABALU - A cleaner was shocked after finding a foetus in a rubbish trap at a sewage plant in Inanam on Monday.
The foetus was found at 9.30am by the worker, who was performing cleaning duties at the time.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the worker thought the object was a doll, but after lifting the trap, they found a foetus inside.
"The foetus was 18 centimeters long and still had the umbilical cord attached.
"Doctors were unable to determine the gender, but believe it may be a boy," he said in a statement today.
The foetus was sent to the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for an autopsy.
Zaidi said anyone with information about the case is asked to contact investigating officer Inspector Hatikah Ahmad at 016-8337243.
The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code, which deals with concealing a birth by disposing of a body.
