Police have the right to arrest any individual - Musa Hassan

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have the right to arrest individuals based on the investigation being carried out, former Inspector-General of Police says.

Tan Sri Musa Hassan said it was within the jurisdiction of the police that they could arrest any individual based on existing laws.

"Although the individual can be summoned to appear, the police can decide based on discretion and discussion to arrest the individual," he said when contacted on Tuesday.

Musa said this when asked to comment on the case of caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Noor who was arrested at a hotel in Mont Kiara here at about 3am, Tuesday.

It was reported that Sanusi was arrested by a police team while in a room at the hotel.

He was then taken in a four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to the police team accompanied by another vehicle to the Gombak District Police Headquarters (IPD).

A two minutes and 50 seconds video of Sanusi's arrest had been circulated on social media.

Police confirmed that Sanusi was arrested to face charges in court under the Sedition Act.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain had reportedly said that the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department's Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (D5) team arrested the Kedah Menteri Besar.
