SHAH ALAM - Selangor is the only state to provide an annual RM150 allowance for its senior citizens, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said.
Under the Mesra Usia Emas Scheme (SMUE), every senior citizen aged 60 and above in Selangor will be celebrated and supported, he said.
"Did we reduce it (the SMUE)? (The answer is) no (because) in 2019 we gave RM100 (for senior citizens) but in the 2023 Budget we raised it to RM150," he said in a video on Twitter, today.
"After 10 years, we will evaluate the effectiveness of this programme and if it reached its target for our senior citizens," he said.
Amirudin said the implementation of SMUE was initially intended to provide assistance to senior citizens who had passed away, however, he said the approach needed to be modified.
"That isn't the SMUE because they have died, we must change it to Let's go shopping from ages 60 until they pass," Amirudin added.
