SEREMBAN - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that he had started raising chickens in his garden for his own consumption to solve the problem of egg supply in the market.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman said that based on an empirical study conducted by a group of researchers on 1,200 respondents, the most critical problem faced by the people is the cost of living.
"The most obvious answer was the first problem which was the cost of living, endless food price hike, insufficient food supply, even egg shortage.
"I have started raising hens in my garden, 40 eggs a day. I want to show that we can solve problems if we work it out on our own," he said at the Negeri Sembilan PN election machinery launching ceremony on Sunday night.
However, the Pagoh Member of Parliament acknowledged that not everyone has the ability or the land to raise 30 to 40 chickens at a time.
He said that on a recent inspection at several stalls around Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur, he received complaints from traders about the increase in price of goods.
"I said they (prices of goods) are expensive, they said everything went up, I asked what came down, they said rain.
"I asked what's the price of chicken? They said RM10 per kilogramme. When I was a minister, it was RM6.40.
"They said that in Tan Sri's (my) time, it did go up, but now it's gone up to RM10 per kilogramme," he said . - AWANI
