KUALA LUMPUR - Amendments to Article 15(A) of the Federal Constitution involving the issue of citizenship for children of Malaysians born abroad will be tabled in Parliament this September.
Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, the amendment will involve the replacement of the words 'whose father' in Part I and Part II of the Second Schedule with the words 'at least one of the parents'.
"In the law, we only mention fathers, and we do include mothers. So, we want to include parents in the amendment.
"It is not fair if we put only the father. This is the issue of an innocent child, born out of love and marriage," he said.
Anwar said this at the International Malaysian Law Conference (IMLC) 2023 organized by the Malaysian Bar Council at a hotel here on Monday.
