KUALA LUMPUR - Cops have confirmed that they have initiated an investigation Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang believed to be on issues linked to religion, royalty, and race (3R).
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Deputy Director Datuk G S Suresh Kumar said the investigation is in response to Hadi's statement alleging that DAP intends to maintain the understanding of Islam under the Federal Constitution based on the colonial interpretation that upholds liberalism and the freedom practiced in Western countries.
"The statement is believed to have been in his Facebook post last Saturday. A news portal has also discussed about the article on the same date," he said in a statement on Monday.
Suresh Kumar added that the investigation is being probed by Bukit Aman D5 Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
"The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said.
He advised public not to engage in any speculation that could disrupt the investigation process.
"Strict action will be taken against anyone who undermines public peace and national security," he added.
Yesterday, copconfirmed that Bukit Aman were probing DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng over remarks that allegedly touch on the 3R issue.
It was reported that Lim was alleged to have said "the green wave (a reference to Perikatan Nasional’s election appeal with voters) will destroy temples and deny religious rights in Penang”.
