BANGI - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim strongly refutes the Opposition's claim that the government is reducing provisions related to Islam.
He insisted the allocations for Islamic agencies have increased since he took over the Federal Government.
"I want to make it clear that during my nearly eight months in the Cabinet, we have increased allocations for programmes related to Islam.
"Has DAP raised any objections? None. In fact, DAP has provided full cooperation to ensure the success of our programmes," he said.
He said this during the launch of Madani election machinery for Selangor at Laman Niaga, yesterday.
According to Anwar, the country needs to remain peaceful without touching on sensitive issues caused by religious and narrow-minded extremists and traitors.
"This country remains a Malay majority, the constitution continues to uphold the Malay language and privileged rights, in addition to the sovereignty of the Malay Monarchs and Islam as the Federal religion is maintained without any tolerance.
"This country will also guarantee that regardless of Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan children and all without feeling left out," he said.
Anwar said that the Unity Government is also trying to continue to rescue Felda and dispose of the settler's debts by providing allocations amounting to RM8.3 billion.
According to him, as many as 98 per cent of Felda settlers are Malays and the government is trying to free them from debt.
He added that the Unity Government is also very concerned about everyone regardless of religion and race.
He said that various allocations were provided for the benefit of the people, such as the renovation of school toilets and village clinics.
"Regardless of primary school, religion, Chinese, Indian, Arab, Iban and Kadazan we all help, as well as the repair of village clinics we do without choosing an area," he said.
