Sensational singer Coco Lee dies at 48 after long struggle with depression, family says

SHAH ALAM - Hong Kong-American singer Coco Lee has died. She was 48.

Her sister, Nancy Lee on a social media post said the popular singer who had been battling with depression for years, ended her life on July 2.

Nancy further wrote that Coco had been suffering from depression for a few years but her condition deteriorated drastically over the last few months.

"Although, Coco sought professional help and did her best to fight depression, sadly that demon inside of her took the better of her.

"On July 2, she committed suicide at home and was sent to the hospital. Despite the best efforts of the hospital team to rescue and treat her from her coma, she finally passed away on July 5.

She further said 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Coco’s singing career, in the past 29 years, she’s won countless international acclaims with top selling songs.

During her thirty-year career span, Lee achieved international stardom recognition for her single ‘Do you want my love’ which entered the US music charts with her first English-language album ‘Just No Other Way’.

She also performed the Best Original Song nominated, ‘A Love Before Time’ from the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

"Coco is also known to have worked tirelessly to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene, and she went all out to shine for the Chinese. We are proud of her!," Nancy further wrote.
