SHAH ALAM – Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today points out that Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman is okay while other Malays are not.
Dr Mahathir posted this on his Twitter account, after Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) posted a video of its president who responded to his earlier comments.
"While Kedah Sultan reminded us not to forget history, Syed Saddiq told us to erase the history of our nation and religion.
"With that, with the definition of Malay as a person who speaks in the Malay language, practises Malay customs and the Islamic religion as found in the Federal Constitution of Malaysia, then we are all no longer Malays.
"That is the effect when this country is recognised as a multiracial country,” he said in the post.
In the video, Syed Saddiq said Muda’s leaders would be a new breed of Malay leaders who not merely tolerate diversity and multiracialism but would embrace and celebrate diversity and meritocracy.
"We believe an attack upon non-Malays and non-Bumiputera is equivalent to an attack against all Malaysians.
"Similarly, an attack against Malays is an attack against all Malaysians.
"Because our lives, our fates, and our future are interconnected with one another and intertwined with one another.
"When we succeed we succeed as a country together and when we fail, we fail as a country together,” Syed Saddiq had said in the video.
