SHAH ALAM - Muda's president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says they will contest less than 10 per cent out of the 245 seats contested during the state elections.
He said the decision is based on Muda's capacity as it requires a significant amount of funding to contest in all seats.
"I acknowledge the extraordinary challenges; Muda needs to assess its own capabilities. It is impossible for us to contest in all 245 state assembly seats as expected by some," he said.
"If possible, I don't want to because Muda lacks the capability and when we want to field candidates, we want to ensure they are good candidates, not just for the sake of filling the seats.
He said during Sinar Live program 'Kuasa Ketiga atau Kacau Daun' hosted by Haizir Othman and broadcasted on all Sinar Harian platforms on Monday.
The Muar MP further said the main focus of Muda's participation in the upcoming elections is not to win by fielding candidates in all 245 seats.
"Even though Muda's candidate lineup is small, we can send a clear signal to ensure that those in power do not become complacent and compromise the principles of our struggle and the promised policies without hesitation," he said.
He said the party wants a good check and balance.
"Even though we may have a small number of Muda candidates and limited financial resources, I want to ensure that they can perform their duties better. I am in Parliament with just one seat but I fully address issues with proposals and solutions to ensure a brighter future for our country," he added.
Syed Saddiq further said that the partyto be prepared to lose as it can teach them to become better leaders.
He further said that Muda's main principle is not to be arrogant in victory and not to raise the white flag in defeat.
"The people should know our stance, our struggle, and our investment for the next 10 to 20 years," he added.
