SHAH ALAM - A female Inspector who went viral on social media recently was brought before Selayang Magistrate's Court, here today on three charges of
intimidation and insulting the honor of a police officer with the rank of lance corporal and two members of the public.
Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar or, better known as Inspector Sheila, has pleaded not guilty and asked for trial for all three charges.
"I am pleading not guilty and I am asking for trial.. I understand the charges read," she said after the court interpreter read the charges before Magistrate Chai Guan Hock.
Sheila was charged for intimidating a 69-year-old woman with the intention of causing fear under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of two years imprisonment or a fine or both, if convicted.
She was also accused of insulting the decency of a 41-year-old man by saying: "You tengok badan you, gemuk, botak dan badak sumbu (You, look at your body, fat and bald just like a rhinoceros)” according to Section 509 of the Penal Code which provides a maximum of five years in prison or a fine, or both.
Sheila pleaded not guilty in front of Magistrate Nor Hafizah Rajuni for speaking inappropriately to Lance Corporal Abdul Arif Farhan Abdul Razak with the intention of insulting his honor, according to Section 509 of the Penal Code.
Previously, Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Nur Iman Wan Ahmad Afzal offered RM8,000 bail to the accused, while Anis Farhah Ahmad Hilmi offered RM3,000 bail.
Chai then granted Sheila a bail of RM3,000 with one surety, while Hafizah granted a bail of RM2,000.
Meanwhile, her lawyer M Manoharan appealed for reduced bail or his client to be released on an unsecured bail bond.
He said his client had been serving in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) since 2016.
The lawyer said the accused's father had also served 39 years as police officer with his last rank being Assistant Superintendent, and the accused's younger brother is also a policeman.
