TAMPIN - The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) confirmed that one of its trainers involved in the grenade explosion incident during a training session at Syed Sirajuddin Camp, here, had passed away yesterday.
The Air Force Headquarters in a statement said the late Air Corporal Syuib Bidin, 33, who was a trainer at the Institute of Administration and Management Studies (INSTAR, Sendayan Air Base had passed away at 5.45pm while receiving treatment at Segamat Hospital, Johor.
The other severely injured trainer Air Corporal Khairuzaman Lokman, 35, who is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital and is under close monitoring was reported to be in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the personnel who was reported dead at the scene of incident at 12.10pm was identified as the late Air Force I Mohd Iqmal Masdi, 22, from Lenggeng.
"He was a student of the Defence Assistant Enhancement Course Class 1 (KPPP Kls 1) Series 78/23 at INSTAR," he said.
According to the statement, the next of kin of the personnels involved have been informed and RMAF will ensure all matters related to the families' welfare would be prioritised and the funeral arragement could be completed as best as possible.
"Air Force chief General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan as well as RAMF's highest leadership expressed their grief over the incident and sent their condolences to the families of the deceased personnels who are a great loss to RMAF.
"We pray that the souls of the two deceased would be blessed and placed among His faithful servants. Additionally, it is hoped that the treament of the injured personnel would be eased and he would recover quickly," he said.
The statement added that RMAF asked all parties not to spread any speculations and false news until the investigation conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is completed.
RMAF will also set up an investigation body to identify the cause of the incident.
