SHAH ALAM – Regardless of party and political ideology, politicians are encouraged not to criticise and humiliate other Muslims.
Umno Ulama Council Executive Secretary Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said humiliating others is against the morals of a Muslim and a believer.
According to him, doing so was forgivable for a grassroot leader, but it is highly wrong for a member of Parliament to do so.
"Insulting another party or a person in the name of Islam and the Malays and labelling them as a cloth of which you wipe your feet with is insulting and unbecoming behavior for someone known as a religious teacher.
"What do you get by humilating people this way? Will you be rcognised as a brilliant orator by your party members?
"Or gain people's support in the state election by using insults that is forbidden by Islam?" he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
His statement is thought to refer to Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth Leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari's address at the Selangor PN Election Convention, in which he said that the DAP treated the Barisan Nasional (BN) like rags to wash their wet feet.
According to Ahmad Fadhli, the comparison he used, while harsh, did not imply that he was personally antagonistic to his BN colleagues.
Thus, Mohd Khairuddin emphasised the importance of leaders who profess to be political warriors and preachers of Islam to practice politics with Islamic morality.
He counselled the member of Parliament to repent to Allah and apologise for his disrespectful behaviour and words in order to avoid as he was an example to the youth he is leading
"Don't be ashamed to repent and apologise," he said.
