KUALA LUMPUR - A man believed to be the Facebook administrator of JDT fans club was arrested by police for insulting the Sultan of Johor in a recent post.
Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) secretary Datuk Noorsiah Mohd Saaduddin said the 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday at Alor Setar, Kedah.
She said the suspect's phone and SIM card, believed to be used to upload the insulting post, were also confiscated.
"The case is currently being investigated by Bukit Aman's Classified Crime Investigation Unit (USJT).
"The case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 for causing hate and insulting any king, Section 500 of the Penal Code, which is criminal defamation, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which is improper use of network facilities or network services," she said in a statement today.
She said the suspect was remanded for three days until Monday.
Following this, Noorsiah advised the public to be responsible users of social media.
"People shouldn't use these platforms to trigger anger and hate towards religion, race, and the Rulers to the point of threatening the harmony of this country.
"Strict action with no compromises will be taken against any individuals who deliberately threaten the public order and safety," she said.
