PENDANG - Kedah Umno predicts that it will contest at least 15 seats in the state election.
Kedah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, however, said that the final decision on the seat allocation between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the state is expected to be completed before Hari Raya Haji.
"If we contest in 15 constituencies, that would be the minimum. Yes, if we get more than that, it means we have gotten more than expected," he said after briefing the preparation for the Sungai Tiang Umno state election at the Pendang Umno office on Friday.
When asked about two of the 36 Kedah seats that have not yet been finalised by BN and Kedah PH, Mahdzir said that they are expected to be resolved in the near future.
"I think that it is not an issue and will be resolved soon. God willing, within this week before the Eid celebration, we can get it done," he said.
On the party's preparation for the polls, he said BN has already established committees for every voting district in each state assembly.
"Let's say that Sungai Tiang has approximately 23 voting district centres, so there will be a committee across all those 23 centres. If Tokai has 21 centres, then there will be 21 committees," he said.
He added that among the actions taken was ensuring that all the committees cooperate with PH candidates in the state assembly they are contesting in.
