ALOR GAJAH - Some 500 SPM school leavers are expected to join Volunteer Melaka which has been set up by the state government in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf said the volunteers would be attending training and courses related to the tourism industry and history to learn up interesting facts on popular local destinations in order to help tourists get accurate information on areas that they visit.
"These volunteers will be our tourism ambassadors and we hope to instill the Melaka spirit in them," he told reporters after officiating at Coach Airways@Freeport A'Famosa Outlet here today.
Also present were Tourism Promotion Board director-general Datuk Ammar Abd Ghapar and Freeport A'Famosa Outlet director Datuk Julian Lau.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf added that the state government would also be gazetting a strategic area that is being identified along the Melaka River to be promoted as a cultural site.
He said the site will showcase the diversity of culture and arts found in Melaka involving the Malay, Baba and Nyonya, Portuguese and Chettiar communities.
In conjunction with TMM2024, he said the state government would select a day to give tourists the opportunity to experience the river cruise service for free, adding that discussions are ongoing with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN ) for the KD Hang Tuah to be displayed in the state.
"We are also planning to hold a world giant kite competition as well as organise hot air balloon rides at Dataran 1Malaysia Klebang," he said. - BERNAMA
