Execute institutional reforms immediately

SHAH ALAM - The Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption Parliamentary Cross-Party Group (KRPPM-IGAR) on Thursday held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to discuss party cooperation and steps to realise the execution of institutional reforms in the Government Unity.

Malaysia Sinar Foundation (Rasuah Busters) chief executive officer Nurhayati Nordin said that the meeting that took place at the Parliament, among other things, focused on the independence of institutions in conducting prosecutions, guaranteeing the safety of whistleblowers in the process of preventing corruption, and the legal structure to control leakages which can put the country in danger.

"Alhamdulillah, the institutional reform proposed through this group has received positive cooperation from various political parties that are members of the group which is chaired by the Ledang Member of Parliament (MP) Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.

"I believe that the proactive involvement of each party will ensure that the people's mandate is fulfilled and can be implemented promptly and efficiently, and that our country is able to recover through this institutional reform," she told Sinar on Friday.

Also present, were #RasuahBusters chief Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, Cerdik Foundation representative Shah Hakim Zain, Ikram president Badlishah Sham Baharin, Bar Council president Karen Cheah Yee Lynn, Ideas manager Aira Azhari, MP representing Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as KRPPM members Roy Anak Gingkoi and Rodiyyah Sapiee.

She added that the commitment given by the Unity Government through the parties involved and the stakeholders will directly encourage the restoration of economic and social justice in Malaysia.

She explained that eight institutional reforms had been discussed with Fadillah who is also the GPS Whip chief and that she had high hopes that they would be executed in the future.

"Among them are the separation of powers between the Attorney General and public prosecutor, amendment of MACC Act 2009, amendment of the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, amendment of the Judicial Commission Act 2009, enactment of the Procurement Act, enactment of the Political Funding Act, Parliament reform and a full implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan," she said.
