JOHOR BAHRU - Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth has proposed that youths make up 30 per cent of BN candidates in the upcoming state elections.
Its deputy chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said the request is in line with the important role played by youths in the development of the country and as future leaders.
The 30 per cent allocation is similar to the request by former Umno Youth Leader Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki during the 15th General Election, he said.
"The people observe and evaluate today’s leadership. And that is why there must be seats allocated for the Youth and Puteri wings for the country’s future,” he told reporters when met at the Johor Bazar Rakyat Agro programme (BRAJ) here today.
Hairi, who is also Umno Youth election director, said the allocation request was not intended to sideline experienced leaders but was more to ensure the well-being of the nation and its future.
The six states facing elections are Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu. - BERNAMA
