GOMBAK - The police have concluded their investigation into a viral video showing the act of capturing wild monkeys in an area on the edge of a forest near a housing estate in Batu Caves here on Wednesday.

Gombak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zainal Mohamed Mohamed, said the 52-second viral video was detected at about 7 pm.

"A report was received by the police on June 13 at about 3.30 pm related to the capture of wild monkeys that had damaged residents' property.

"The investigation found it was actually carried out by the Hulu Selangor Perhilitan Office staff after receiving a complaint from the residents' association," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said that a complaint was made regarding a group of wild monkeys allegedly disturbing and damaging residents' property.

"The public is advised not to make any statements or irresponsible speculations that could mislead and affect public order," he said.

On Wed, a video went viral on Facebook believed to have been uploaded by an individual, claiming that some wild monkeys were being caught in an area in Batu Caves.

The individual had also alleged that the action was cruel and inhumane.

The individual was also charged with disputing the actions taken by some Health Department staff when they were carrying out their duties at the time of the incident.
