KUALA LUMPUR - Umno has not received any appeals from sacked members to return to the party.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, however, said the party has only received appeals from those who were suspended before the party's election.

"Many whose membership was suspended had submitted an appeal letter to be re-admitted as Umno members.

"The Supreme Council has said that the party's disciplinary board will review all appeals submitted.

"It is open to accept any recommendation made by the board, and normally the report to support or reject (the appeal) will be referred to the Management Committee.

"Only the supreme council can make the final decision on whatever disciplinary action is imposed, whether to issue a warning, suspension, or dismissal," he said in a press conference after the 2023 Umno General Assembly (PAU) at the World Trade Centre (WTC) today.

Previously, Sinar Daily reported that Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Salleh insisted that Umno leadership needed to accept members who were sacked or suspended in order to strengthen the party ahead of the state election, as the party was now at its lowest point and needed to accept anyone who wanted to help strengthen the party.

Meanwhile, Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, informed me that there were several steps that had been initiated to strengthen the party ahead of the six state elections.

"Courses or training had been initiated by the information chief, and the settlement of all information chiefs in the six states involved in the state election had begun.

"Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership will discuss the seats allocation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) leadership in the near future," he explained.
