KUALA LUMPUR - The current political climate needs Umno to work with the unity government, which means that the Malay party needs to work with its former enemy which is DAP.
However, Kedah Umno information chief Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has clearly stated that Umno members should not be worried as the Malay, Islam and Bumiputera agendas will continue to remain the party's top priority.
Shaiful also outlined a new direction for the party, which was to adapt to the existing political situation.
He also reminded Umno members to not forget the party’s former leader Datuk Seri Najib Razak and reminded party members to be united.
"In the last election, there were several clusters in the party, and as a result, we lost in 15th General Election (GE15).
"So, we need to move forward, be united, and refocus.” he told Sinar Daily.
Yesterday, in an emotional moment in his policy speech during the 2023 Umno general assembly, Zahid said Najib's spirit could still be felt in the Merdeka Hall, World Trade Centre (WTC), here.
The Bagan Datuk MP then proceeded to ask everyone in the hall to honour Najib, before they started chanting the former prime minister’s popular tagline "malu apa bossku”.
Meanwhile, Shaiful said Umno members needed to adapt quickly to the unity government as the state elections in six states will be held soon.
The upcoming state elections involved Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan.
