SEMPORNA - Police have detained a 40-year-old foreign tourist in connection with a nude video clip on a hotel balcony in Semporna.
District police chief Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement on Friday (June 9), said the arrest was made on Thursday (June 8) night at 9.30pm at a hotel in the district.
He said the arrest was made after a nine-second video went viral showing a naked man coming out of a hotel room that was facing the road.
"The man's action was recorded by a civilian who had passed by the road in front of the hotel when the incident occured. The video has been circulated on social media since.
"The incident was believed to have happened at about 8am last Tuesday. "The man was detained for further investigation under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code for the offence of obscene act in a public place, which carries a prison sentence of up to three months or a fine or both if convicted," he said in a statement tonight.
He also said that the individual who recorded the incident was asked to come forward to help in the investigation.
"Any information related to the incident can be channelled to the investigating officer, Inspector Khadijah Mohd Seruji, at 019-8718002 or IPD Semporna at 089-781222 or 089-782020.
"Tourists are also advised to always obey the laws of this country and respect the customs and culture of the local community," he said.
