KUALA LUMPUR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has agreed that the subsidies and price control for chicken and eggs continue to be maintained.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security as well as the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living in a joint statement said the decision was made after taking into account all aspects as well as to ensure the poultry industry remained sustainable.
"The decision to continue providing subsidies and to control the price of chicken and eggs was made to ensure the welfare of the people in line with the aspirations of the Malaysia MADANI government,” said the statement from both ministries.
The Cabinet had on Feb 17, decided to continue the subsidy for chicken and eggs from Jan 1 to June 30, while it was announced yesterday that the subsidies would not be continued after June 30 .
