PUTRAJAYA - The recent collaboration between former prime ministers Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has provided Perikatan Nasional (PN) advantages in the upcoming State Elections.
Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu expressed concerns over Umno's actions, which have caused division among Malays due to their cooperation with DAP in forming the unity government.
As a result, PN has emerged as the preferred choice for the largest Bumiputera community, he said.
"Umno's actions have demoralised Malays," he told Sinar.
Faizal noted that many traditional Umno and BN supporters have shifted their allegiance after the collaboration between BN, Pakatan Harapan (PH), Umno, and DAP.
"The only alternative for them now is PN, and we believe it can replace what Umno has done previously," he said.
Faizal emphasised that, at present, Malays are gravitating towards PN.
"I believe Tun M, as an independent figure, is more inclined to support PN candidates. That's my observation, but I can't read Tun M's thoughts or intentions," he added.
Faizal explained that both Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin are working for the betterment of Malays.
"They have addressed issues such as scholarships, education, job opportunities, business prospects, the cost of living, and the economic standing of the country. I believe these issues should be prioritised and resolved collectively," he said.
When asked about the meeting date between Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin, Faizal stated that he was unaware of any specific dates.
"I don't have information about the meeting date. It's up to them," he responded.
Dr Mahathir had mentioned on Wednesday that he would be meeting with Muhyiddin soon.
Previously, he expressed his willingness to collaborate with Muhyiddin if both parties could align their goals, a proposition that was welcomed by Muhyiddin on Friday.
The dissolution of the State Assemblies in six states is anticipated to take place simultaneously, paving the way for the State Elections scheduled for July.
