KUALA LUMPUR - People Progressive Party (PPP) joins hands with UMNO to protest against controversial comedian Jocelyn Chia's offensive remarks against Malaysians.

"We take this seriously. As Malaysians, we can't let Chia touch on sensitive issues like MH370. It is wrong, as this is a tragedy that affects all Malaysians.

"Malaysians are not happy, and we urge the government to ban her from coming into our country," its Youth Chief Sathiah Sudakran said

He said Singapore and Malaysia have a good relationship, and she's not even a Singaporean.

"Who is she to talk about Malaysia? What rights does she have? This is really serious.

"We urge the United States government to take action and ban her from performing any shows," he added.

Meanwhile, MCA deputy chief of publicity Wong Siew Mun said that although it is understandable that standup comedies are such, it's not funny to talk about the missing flight MH370 as the victims' families are still mourning for their loved ones.

"If you want to be popular, yes, you can, but not by mocking others.

"I hope she can learn from this. This is the repercussion of being insensitive. We all have lost our loved ones, and we don't like when someone makes unwarranted comments," she said.

On Thursday, Chia had drawn the ire of Malaysians when a video clip of her joke, told at the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan, New York, had gone viral across social media.

Apart from the MH360 joke, Chia also quipped how Singapore became a first-world country, whereas Malaysia is still a developing country.

"Malaysia, what are you now, still a developing country? F--k you, Malaysia. Isn’t that the best breakup revenge,” she said.
