SHAH ALAM - Wanita Umno today reiterates its call for the party to fulfil its promise of providing 30 per cent quota of seats to candidates representing the wing in the next State Elections.
Its chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said it was in line with the pivotal role that women play in the development of the country.
"We want women to be given the 30 per cent seats quota and not just (empty) promises.
"Wanita will continue with the demands until they are met.
"These demands come with challenges. Are we prepared for it?
"We have a sufficient line-up who meet the criteria to stand out as candidates. I believe we can," she said while delivering the policy speech in conjunction with the 2023 Wanita Umno General Assembly at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) here on Thursday.
The Parit Sulong MP added women must be seen in line with the current political flow, parallel with the sacrifices and struggles made in the past.
She said women did not want to be given a traditional portfolio simply 'available', but they wanted to be given a bigger role.
"We want women to be given a chance to lead more senior ministries. We also want to be given important positions in agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs)," she said.
In the same development, Noraini said it was time for Umno Wanita to have an institution that unleashes women’s potential and produces outstanding candidates.
She explained the party wing must move forward by implementing political evolution for women to be more trusted, modern and capable of continuing Umno's survival.
