KLANG - A total of 13 shipping containers with aerosol at Jalan Pelabuhan Utara, North Port Sdn Bhd caught fire on Wednesday.
Selangor State Malaysia Fire and Rescue Services (JBPM) director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said the JBPM Operations Centre (PGO) received a distress call at 10.14am.
He said the fire involved containers with highly flammable objects at the port.
"Swift actions were taken by sending a team to strengthen the logistics force consisting of six FRT machines, water tankers (six), ALP (one unit) and EMRS (one unit).
"Rescue efforts were done by Klang Port Fire and Rescue Department (BBP) aided by Sungai Pinang BBP, Kota Raja BBP, Andalas BBP, Shah Alam BBP, Cyberjaya BBP, Kota Anggerik BBP and Serdang BBP for extinguishing and rescue actions," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He added the logistics force as a whole for the rescue operation involved 41 personnel and nine officers of different ranks as well as 14 machineries.
Razali said the fire involved 13 shipping container units out of a total of 333 and were reported to be carrying highly flammable objects which were aerosol.
He said the incident occurred in an area of 10x40 square feet and 20x10 square feet in Bay AA.
"A fire break was successfully done through the method of extinguishing and separating containers yet to catch on fire using the Stacker and RTG.
"The fire was controlled at 11.40am and it was extinguished at 2.20pm, but overhaul works were still being done at the scene," he said.
