MELAKA - A father of four was charged in the Sessions Court here today on charges of seriously injuring his wife because the victim refused to have sex with him.
Syed Fakrulrazi Syed Abdul Rahman, 41, however, pleaded not guilty after the two charges were read before Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam.
According to the first charge, he was accused for deliberately causing serious injuries to his wife by hitting his head to the victim's face.
The accused had allegedly committed the offence at about 10am in a house in Taman Tanjung Minyak Perdana, on Feb 12.
He was charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Act, which carries imprisonment of up to 14 years or a fine, if convicted.
For the second charge, he was accused of intimidating the same victim by threatening to kill her at the same time, date and place.
For this offence, he was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of up to two years or a fine or both, if convicted.
It was understood that the incident happened after the accused got angry when the victim refused to have sex with him.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Aliff Asraf Anuar Sharuddin had requested to prohibit bail for the first charge but if the court wanted to exercise discretion, he suggested RM20,000 of bail for the accused.
He also asked to impose some additional conditions where the accused has to report to the nearest police station every month, hand over his passport to the court and not to disturb the victim until the case was completed.
The accused, represented by lawyer Ishak Mohd Kari had applied for a low bail on the grounds that the accused, who works as a mechanic, has four children to support in addition to his wife who had filed for divorce in Syariah Court.
The court then allowed a bail of RM10,000 with one surety and the accused agreed to all the additional conditions presented.
The court had set July 10 for re-mention of case.
