KAPIT - Umno has always opened its doors to former party members to attend the Umno General Assembly (PAU), even if they are not among the delegates.
Its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said former members of the Malay party can be observers outside the hall while the assembly takes place.
"To anyone who is not an Umno delegate or a former Umno member who wishes to attend the assembly because they miss it, please come. Those from other parties can also come.
"We hope the 2023 general assembly is a starting point for us to solve current problems or issues," he said in a press conference after attending the Pesta Gawai celebration open house here today.
It was previously reported that Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had jokingly 'invited' leaders who were recently expelled from the party to join Umno at the upcoming general assembly, scheduled to take place from June 7 to June 10.
Previously, Umno had sacked several leaders, including former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Tanjong Karang Umno division chief Tan Sri Noh Omar.
Moreover, Umno had also suspended several veteran leaders from the party, including former vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and former information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan, for six years.
Meanwhile, Zahid confirmed that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will attend the 2023 PAU on June 9. - AWANI
