SABAK BERNAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) can win 33 seats if it heeds the one-on-one formula and fosters the Muafakat Nasional (MN) spirit at the Selangor state election.
Former Selangor Umno chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said it was possible to win, especially in an area with Malay-dominant voters.
In the previous 15th General Election (GE15) in Selangor, he said the results proved PN could win the seats in BN strongholds.
"Three Parliaments in the north of Selangor – Sabak Bernam, Sungai Besar and Tanjong Karang – were previously Umno strongholds, but we can see with the spirit and unity of Malay voters, PN was able to topple BN,” he said in his speech at the PN Sungai Besar Parliament Dialogue, yesterday.
Noh said PN’s chances to take Selangor and form a new state government could be implemented if there was a two-corner clash against Pakatan Harapan (PH) - BN.
"This (MN) formula was the one I pushed towards Umno leaders before GE15, but it didn’t happen but instead it was a three-corner clash between parties - PN, BN and PH.
"If it were a three-corner clash, the Malay votes would split to three parties and lead to PH candidate’s victory,” he said.
He said the people are now more aware and Umno voters began to come together with PN in order to win the state election.
"I have met many individuals who told me they regretted voting for BN due to Umno becoming friends with DAP despite the leadership previously chanting ‘No DAP’,” he said.
