KUALA LUMPUR - Over 1,000 worshippers participated in a Yasin recital and doa selamat in conjunction with the official birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the National Mosque here today.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was also present at the ceremony which began at about 7pm with the recitation of Surah Yasin and doa selamat led by the National Mosque chief imam Ehsan Mohd Hosni.
After Maghrib prayers, Ahmad Zahid joined the congregation to perform Salatul Hajat or the Prayer of Need to seek protection and pray for the well-being of all Malaysians during the prolonged hot weather which is expected tp last until August following the monsoon transition season.
Among the congregation were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli, Finance Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Adam Adli.
The ceremony today is part of the events being held in conjunction with Al-Sultan Abdullah's official birthday celebration this Monday.
His Majesty was installed as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on July 30, 2019
Tomorrow, the Friday prayer and special sermon in conjunction with the King's birthday will take place at the National Mosque. - BERNAMA
